Couples Therapy

Support for couples experiencing difficulty or change

All relationships go through periods of strain. You may be feeling stuck in the same arguments, struggling to communicate, or noticing a growing sense of distance between you. Sometimes a specific event brings couples to therapy; at other times, difficulties build quietly over time.

Couples therapy offers a space to slow things down and to look together at what is happening between you. I work with couples online

When couples seek therapy

Couples come to therapy for many different reasons, including:

  • Repeated conflict or arguments that don’t resolve

  • Feeling unheard, misunderstood, or disconnected

  • Difficulty expressing needs or emotions

  • Loss of intimacy or closeness

  • Stress related to life transitions or external pressures

  • Questions about the future of the relationship

You don’t need to be in crisis to seek couples therapy. Many couples come because they want to understand their patterns before things become more painful or entrenched.

How couples therapy works

In couples therapy, the focus is not on deciding who is right or wrong. Instead, we pay attention to the patterns that develop between you — how you communicate, how you respond to one another under stress, and what tends to get missed or misunderstood.

Sessions aim to:

  • Create space for each partner to be heard

  • Slow down reactive cycles

  • Support more open and honest communication

  • Increase understanding of one another’s experiences

The work is paced carefully, with attention to safety and fairness for both partners.

Working with differences and conflict

Differences are inevitable in close relationships. Therapy provides a structured space to explore these differences without escalation, avoidance, or withdrawal.

We work to understand how conflict is managed, what sits underneath it, and how each partner experiences closeness and distance. This can help couples develop more flexible and respectful ways of relating, even when disagreements remain.

Practicalities and structure

Couples sessions are typically longer than individual sessions to allow enough time for both partners to speak and be heard. We’ll talk through what feels appropriate at the outset.

I offer:

  • Online couples sessions

  • Initial 15-minute introductory call offered

  • Clear agreements about confidentiality and boundaries
